Parents and students interested in Ellis' 2012-2013 band program met July 26th at 6:00 in the Ellis band room. Mr. Martindale provided important information for the upcoming school year and then fielded questions from parents and students. Mr. Martidale also met with parents and students individually at the conclusion to answer specific questions and discuss instrument assignments.

My name is Matt Martindale, and I am happy to announce I am
the new Director of Bands at Zora Ellis Junior High School and Assistant
Director of Bands at Talladega High School. I am originally from
Birmingham, Alabama, where I grew up and graduated from Hoover High
School. I received my Bachelor of Music Education from Auburn
At Auburn, I was a four-year member of the Auburn University
Marching Band, Symphonic Winds Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Orchestra, and was also
a member of Concert Choir. I was very much involved in the music
community of Auburn and taught in various schools during my time down on “The
Plains.” Currently, I am pursuing my Master of Music Education from
Auburn, as well.
I have worked with all groups from ages of 5 to 22 years old.
I have taught every level of band and music. I have performed throughout
the United States, Mexico, England, Scotland, and Ireland. I hope to
bring my diverse background to my classroom to make it the best possible
experience for my students.
Recently, Ellis was the recipient of 11 band instruments to add to our collection for students to use. We are extremely appreciative of this donation and continued support of our wonderful band program. A special "thank you" to Mr. Martindale, Ellis' new band teacher, for making the necessary arrangements.

This meeting will take place in the Ellis band room Thursday, July 26th at 6:00 p.m. Instruments, costs, and fun experiences which are planned for this year will be discussed. Please examine the "Dress Code 2012" page on the left-hand side of the home page. You will notice that students will be allowed to wear any solid-colored collared shirt. (No stripes or designs.) Pants and shorts must be khaki or navy colored. (No change in this from last year.) Also, belts are not required, but shirts must remain tucked in and pants must be worn at the waist. Happy Shopping!!
