All five elementary schools' 6th grade classes had the opportunity to tour Ellis this week. They were led by selected 8th graders to visit classes and facilities and were also introduced to many teachers and staff members. Their visit follows last week's visit by Ellis students to each elementary school. Please click the links below to see the posts on their blogs about our visit.
A group of eleven 8th grade students traveled to each elementary school in our system Thursday morning. Our students spoke on behalf of the club, organization, or sport in which they participate. All sixth graders listened attentively as Ellis students spoke of the requirements of the members and the opportunities awaiting them next year when they attend Ellis. Below is a list of the students and their topic.

Thanks to all 6th grade teachers and elementary principals for allowing us this wonderful experience!
Congratulations to the Ellis Emeralds! They recently traveled to Nashville, Tennessee, where they attended the Southeastern Color Guard Circuit Championships. While there, they represented our school with pride and enthusiasm as they performed for a very large crowd. Their outstanding performance paid off as they were named 2011 Alabama State Champions for the Cadet Classification and 2011 SCGC Silver Medalists.
We are very proud of these young ladies! They are pictured above with their sister groups, the Dega Darlins of Talladega High School and the Dega Darlins Addition of Talladega High School (JV). The Dega Darlins received the Bronze Medal in Scholastic AA Classification, and the Dega Addition were named 2011 Alabama State Champions in the Novice Classification as well as received the Silver Medal.
In and effort to raise funds for Cancer Awareness, we have two fundraisers planned. We will have a cupcake sale April 20th during 6th period. Students will be allowed to purchase a cupcake for 50 cents. Also, as a fundraiser, April 29th is "Purple Shirt and Jean Day." When a student makes a $2.00 donation, they will be allowed to wear a purple shirt and jeans to school. We encourage everyone to support this worthwhile cause.
We are now accepting new and used school uniform shirts, shorts, and pants to be donated to our "School Uniform Closet." These items should be turned in to Ms. Smith, school counselor. For more information, contact Mrs. Thomas, assistant principal at 256-315-5705.
Ten members of the Builder's Club and Honor Society volunteered their time and energy Friday and Saturday working at the "April in Talladega Pilgrimage." The students served refreshments, provided transportation, and served at hosts and hostesses. We are proud our students serve as positive representatives in the city of Talladega. These volunteers were: Brittany H., Reagan B., Jonathan G., Sam T., Stephanie F., BreAnna C., Alyssa C., Brianna C., Erin B., and Alexis M.
Our 2010-2011 Ellis baseball team has started the year off with a great record--- 10 wins and 3 losses. Head Coach, Bradley Ward along with Assistant Coach, Terry Isbell, encourage everyone to come out and support our team when we face Sylacauga in a double-header at home beginning at 4:30 April 12th. GO ELLIS TIGERS!!
Our lunchroom has a beautiful new mural thanks to the artwork of Mrs. Melissa Webb. She is a 2009 graduate of Talladega College. She was the first to graduate from Talladega College with a degree in Fine Arts. She was commissioned to paint a mural in the Ellis lunchroom. Her mural displays tigers surrounding the food pyramid. The message reads: "Healthy Tigers are Super Stars." To view the article in the Daily Home, click http://www.dailyhome.com/view/full_story/12580680/article-12580680?instance=home_lifestyle.
