Tornado Relief

When Erin B.'s mom found out through a Facebook friend that St. Clair county was in desperate need of help following the recent tornado,  she and Erin decided to travel to St. Clair county to help. It was then and there Erin decided she wanted her friends and the students at Ellis to help her help others. Through announcements and word of mouth, students began to bring in items to help those who were recently victimized by the tornadoes that recently crossed our state. Mr. Lipscomb agreed to help organize donated canned food items, while Erin and her friends organized the toiletry items. Pictured above are Erin B., Brittany H., Bri G., Ashleigh F., and the 69 toiletry bags they will take to the Red Cross. $145.34 was also collected that will be taken along with the canned goods. The kind-heartedness of all our students and teachers is to be commended.

Talladega City Schools Foundation Grant Recipients

Four teachers were pleasantly surprised Friday when representatives of the Talladega City School Foundation presented them with grants. A high-powered camera, Quiz Bowl software, and lab coats will be purchased using the grant money. We are thrilled these teachers took the time to complete the grant applications, and we are extremely thankful to the Talladega City Schools Foundation for their support!

Student Teacher

Donterrio S. led a great math lesson in Mrs. Wood's class as he reviewed mean, median and mode with his fellow 7th grade math classmates. Mrs. Wood said, "I allow students to lead the review skills because sometimes students respond better to peer teaching."

Foy's Fun Friday

Mrs. Foy's classes enjoyed several Fun Friday activities last Friday. In one experiment, balls were bounced to determine the various substances they contained. In a second activity, artificial snow was created. Thirdly, fortune telling fish reacted with the moisture in the students' hands to "predict" future events. Finally, as pictured below, solar tubes were filled with cold air, tied, then the air was heated. This caused the tubes to float midair. Fun Fridays allow students an opportunity to participate in hands-on activities and enjoy a variation of their schedule by spending time in the lab or outside.
