Bubble, Bubble!

Ms. Webb’s 8th grade classes performed a lab on Friday entitled Bubble, Bubble, Toil or Trouble?  This amazing lab demonstration really excited the students!  They mixed two viscous liquids together and watched as the mixture expanded to about 30 times its original volume. Liquid "A" is a polyether polyol. Liquid "B" is a polyfunctional isocyanate. The result is a hardened, lightweight polyurethane foam. Students were able to identify the signs of a chemical reaction and understand that a new substance always results from it.
