Cheer Coach

2 bits, 4 bits, 6 bits a dollar!
All for Mrs. Armstrong, stand up and holler!
Congratulations, Mrs. Armstrong for being appointed by the Board to the position of Cheer Coach. We know you and your squad will represent us well.

New Carpet

Wow! New carpet in 8 classrooms is so exciting! It looks wonderful along with the freshly painted walls.  The only thing they are missing are the great Ellis students who will be entering August 15th!

Landscape Work Day

We need volunteers! Please join us Saturday morning, August 6th from 8:00-10:00 as we weed, trim and plant to improve our landscape at Ellis. Bring rakes, gloves, pruning shears, shovels, and any other gardening supplies. Remember to wear sunscreen and bring drinks to rehydrate. Working students will be awarded homework passes to be used throughout the year!

New PTO Officers

PTO officers for the 2011-2012 school year were selected at the PTO planning session held Sunday afternoon. We proudly announce:
President-- Belinda Hutchinson
Vice-President-- Michele Wilson
                     Secretary-- Dr. Erminel Trescott
                     Treasurer-- Robin Wood

Several parents volunteered to help in any way they could. The turnout was encouraging, and we are thrilled these officers have willingly taken on this important responsibility.

Ellis Welcomes Mrs. Johnson

Mrs. Paula Johnson recently joined our great faculty at Ellis. Mrs. Johnson is a 2011 graduate of JSU with an impressive GPA of 3.4. She is highly qualified in secondary English/Language Arts. Originally from Albertville, she currently resides in Talladega. All four of her children (Alex, Alivia, Caleb, and Timothy) are graduates of or either currently enrolled in the Talladega City Schools System. She and husband, Wes, have been married for 22 years. When asked her teaching philosophy, she said, "Make me teachable until my last breath." It is encouraging that a teacher desires to  be teachable with hopes of learning something new and striving to become better every day. The administration is looking forward to working with Mrs. Johnson and is confident she will be a great asset to our school.

Thanks to Marvin's Building Materials and Home Center

Recently, Marvin's helped with the purchase of two tile boards for Mrs. Carroll's and Mrs. Johnson's rooms. These two teachers will use dry erase markers to write on the tile boards during instruction. Thanks to Sarah and Cathy for your friendly help!

Terrific Tuesdays

On selected Tuesdays throughout the year, parents will be invited to visit our school and hear various speakers discuss topics that are pertinent to parents of middle-school aged children. Ms. Smith, school counselor, and guest speakers will lead these discussions.  All sessions will begin at 11:00 and last approximately 30 minutes. Afterwards, parents are welcome to enjoy lunch with their children. Some topics include: Getting a Good Start to the School Year, Positive Parenting, Cyber Safety, and Childhood Mental Health Issues. Specific dates will be announced later. Great idea, Ms. Smith!
